A Walk in the Park Exhibition to Open at the Thomas Center

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Galleries at the Historic Thomas Center are pleased to announce the opening of A Walk in the Park, which will be on display in The Doris Bardon Gallery from Friday, May 31, 2019 – Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020. A reception for the exhibition will take place May 31 from 7–9 p.m. during Artwalk Gainesville. The evening will include open waltzing in the Spanish Court with music by Stay Tuned. The event is free and open to the public.

Organized as part of Gainesville150!, which commemorates the 150th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Gainesville, A Walk in the Park is a celebration of the City’s treasured network of over 90 parks. These public assets range from over 2,200 acres of preserved land and nature parks to recreation complexes teaming with activity; and from manicured historic gardens to neighborhood tot lots and dog parks. The exhibition invites the viewer to consider these parks and public spaces as places for inspiration, contemplation and recreation, as well as public commons that nurture our community.

Artists featured in the exhibition include Bob Bird, Cindy Capehart, Ben Ingle, Logan Marconi, Sara Nash, Leslie Peeples, Alfred Phillips, Irene Salley and Daniel Stepp. The exhibition is curated by Anne E. Gilroy.
