An Evening with Frederick Douglass and Captain John Brown
We are thrilled to partner with the University of Florida Performing Arts Driveway Theatre Project for the showing of “An Evening with Frederick Douglass and Captain John Brown.” The production, starring Shamrock McShane, Pamela D. Marshall, and E. Stanley Richardson, will take place on the front porch of the Matheson House as a part of the Museum’s Second Saturdays at Sweetwater series.
Admission is free and guests are encouraged to bring their own blanket and chairs.
“An Evening with Frederick Douglass and Captain John Brown” was adapted by director Carol Velasques Richardson from William Branch’s “In Splendid Error.” Richardson has put together a searing dramatic history lesson to reveal the complex friendship, struggle, and heroism of two comrades in the fight to free the slaves. The program will include a talk-back to engage the audience in a discussion of issues that simply could not be more pressing – Race and Freedom.
